Dates are Picked and Flights are Booked! Training starts on December 1st and will go for 5 weeks to get me ready for the time I will be spending over seas! Donations are already being made (THANK YOU!). On February 1st, my feet will be landing on Kenyan soil! So crazy how fast the time seems to be going and how soon I will be leaving!
I have been talking with Brenda, the missionary who lives in Kenya, and between that and checking out their website, here are a list of some of the things they could use at the school that I could take over with me, for those of you who are interested in sending supplies! 🙂
- Pre-School – Grade 1 curriculum
- Teaching Aids
- Learning Manipulatives
- Teaching Resources
- Paint Brushes
- White boards/markers
- Coloring Books
Now keeping in mind that I will have limited luggage space and weight to take things over with me, things like crayons, paint brushes, coloring books or some teaching curriculum for the teachers that could be potentially light weight and easily packed would be great to donate for me to take over with me! If anyone has questions about things they would like to donate, or how to get them too me, I would likely look at getting them from you in January and then I’m not sitting on them and trying to store them for a few more months until I leave! But feel free to email me, Facebook message or text me if you would like to donate things! Then that way I wont have 25 ladies donating 100 coloring books and no crayons! 😉
It has been decided that I will plan to stay and be at the school for 3 months initially, and then once I’m settled in and acclimated with the kids, staff and the work in Nairobi it will be decided if they could use me longer and an official return date will be decided, but for now, 3 months is where it’s at!
This is something that excites me because for those who know, there is an orphanage I worked with while in Nairobi last time that I would reaaally like to go back to! For one little boy in particular. I wasn’t sure if that was going to be a possibility depending on how long the school wanted me to stay in lieu of how long my Visa in Kenya lasts! I believe my Visa allows me for 6 months to be spent in the country so knowing the potential with the school is 3 or so months, this would allow me time to spend at the orphanage! Stay tuned, I’ll be sure to keep y’all updated as plans come together to visit the orphanage!
To those who have asked me about supporting or donating towards me trip (which is not in any way expected, but hugely appreciated) my online profile hasn’t been completely set up yet but once it is I will definitely let you know! If you are wanting to give but not online however, I do have a form that I could give you to fill out which allows you to support my trip and get a tax-deductible receipt for it! Again, not something that is expected but for those who have asked, this is what I have so far! 🙂
All things considered, I’m extremely excited about this adventure! Yes, mixed emotions with leaving, being there for that long on my own, travelling alone etc. but over all, knowing this is what I’m supposed to be doing and where I have been called to go serve, the over all emotion is sheer excitement over what the future holds!
Anyone wanting to get a hold of me, ask questions, donate materials, or offer support can contact me through facebook or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or feel free to send me a text at 306-577-3274! Here is the link as well for Jacaranda Ministries Web Site for anyone who wants to check out where I’m going to be serving! http://jacarandacommunity.com/pages/about-jacaranda-academics
Huge Thank-You again, to everyone who is supporting me in this!
Next on my to-do list, learning Swahili.
